This special issue of the Journal of the Society of Medical Sciences of Lisbon (JSCMed) presents a selection of works from the II Luso-Galician Congress on the History of Medicine, held in Porto in November 2025. Bringing together scholars, clinicians, and students from Portugal and Galicia, the congress provided a forum for dialogue on the historical foundations of medical knowledge and practice.

The contributions included in this volume — lectures, communications, and posters — reflect the diversity of contemporary research in the History of Medicine and highlight the enduring relevance of historical perspectives in understanding the evolution of medical science, institutions, and professional culture.

By publishing these works, JSCMed reinforces its commitment to fostering historical reflection within the biomedical community and to promoting scholarly exchange across the Iberian academic space.
